Breakfast Fail

I like to plan things. I often think about my day and how it will go along... where I will go, what I will do, how people will react. However, I have decided I am terrible at dealing with interferences with MY plan. This morning was a reminder of this... After a 6am training appointment, I decided to stop by the Pannikin on my way home to surprise Jeff with a latte and a blueberry muffin. I was so excited as I pictured his pleased expression over what a thoughtful wife I am... then he would sit down with his perfectly steamed latte and fresh warm muffin and read his TIME magazine, still thinking... what a thoughtful wife I have.
I wish this was how things went. Instead, I arrived home at 7:20 to find Jeff washing his damn cereal bowl... he ate breakfast already... early! So of course I got mad, not at him, but kind of... why did he have to eat his breakfast so freaking early... didn't he know I would be bringing him a surprise?! Of course he humored me and drank his latte and ate a couple bites of muffin, told me he loved me, etc. etc. But I couldn't help but feel like this had ruined my day... and it was not even 8 o'clock.
I honestly believe that God does this to me sometimes, just to see how I handle having my plan thwarted. This morning I definitely failed. However, I am reminded that my plans...my little fantasies about how my days and my life will play out...are not necissarily God's plans. I am going to try to be a little more open and flexible today.

"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the LORD. -Isaiah 55:8

It is a GRAND Canyon

I remember the first time I visited the Grand Canyon. My family took a week long road trip through Death Valley to the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Las Vegas, and the Hoover Dam. It felt like the longest trip ever. I was at the age where I wasn't really interested in spending time with my parents, and I didn't think this canyon would be all that exciting. All I remember was this sense of complete awe as I walked up to the rim and looked out over this vast wonder. Jeff had been before when he was young as well, so we decided that we would take a trip back... and this time venture down to the bottom. It was a challenging 9 miles down, especially with our 25+ pound packs, but the views were spectacular. We camped by an offshoot of the Colorado river, and rested in preparation for our 9 mile hike out the next morning. When we made it to the top again 6 hours after we started that morning... I felt such a sense of accomplishment. I love experiences like that... its like life, there are challenges, but once you face them and eventually get through them, you emerge a much stronger person.
